Statement

The Irish Foster Care Association (IFCA) notes the recent court findings reported today and recognises the ongoing challenges within the Child Protection and Welfare System. Every child in care deserves consistent support, including access to an allocated social worker, to ensure their well-being and best interests are prioritised and the voice of the child in care is heard.

We recognise the significant pressures on the system, including the national shortfall in social workers and the challenges in recruiting and retaining staff. While workforce shortages present real difficulties, it is vital that solutions are found to ensure children in care receive the professional support and oversight they need.

It is essential that strong systems are in place to provide effective oversight, clear accountability, and timely interventions to support children, foster families, and social care professionals.

IFCA remains committed to advocating for foster carers and the children in their care, working collaboratively to strengthen the support structures needed to provide safe, stable, and nurturing homes.
