Course Overview:
In this practical session, Chichi will explore ways that foster carers and practitioners can support the skin and hair care of children from migrant backgrounds, with a particular focus on children of African heritage. Supporting a child’s skin and hair routine is fundamentally tied to supporting their identity, self-esteem, and cultural connection.
As caregivers and practitioners, we need to approach this with cross-cultural respect by:
  • Informing ourselves the particular needs of these children,
  • Understanding ethic skin and hair care needs,
  • Learning about traditional practices,
  • Talking to children about what they need, and
  • Seeking specialised resources or services when required.
